Interested in classes at the studio? See what we're offering below:
Class description: Most photographers don’t know how to use artificial light which limits what you can create. At Salt Media Studios, our upcoming class teaches you the Foundations of Light in a boutique, hands-on setting – so you can take full control of your lighting and your craft.
This class will be taught in two parts: First, join us to get comfortable with the basics of artificial light in a class setting taught by veteran photographer John Mortland. Then, experience putting those skills to work first-hand as you take turns being behind the camera as well as in front of it. Getting to practice not only using artificial light in a real-time setting, but also gathering insight on how to help your clients feel more comfortable in front of the camera.
Leave the class with a suite of new skills, new imagery for your portfolio to showcase your new offering and an extra bonus of a couple of new headshots.
In order to keep this class as helpful as possible, we're only opening 5 spots
Our Teacher: John Mortland has spent years practicing his craft. His first photography class was in junior high school where he learned to work with film and a darkroom. He spent 20 years in service to this great nation as a pilot in the US Air Force. He continued as a hobbyist while he traveled the globe.
When he retired in 2013, he decided to prioritize his family. He chose a career where he could work around their schedule. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Photography from Pikes Peak Community College and then was invited back as an Adjunct Professor. He also earned his Certified Professional Photographer from the Professional Photographers of America and is active in that organization.
He is published in numerous local publications.

How do I access the studio?
We want each photographer's time with us to be honored and uninterrupted. Before entering the studio, ensure no other shoots are going on by checking the sign on the door. Please remember your booking starts at the time you booked, not before. If you require additional setup/teardown time before and/or after your shoot, please plan accordingly by booking the additional time needed.
How early can I arrive for my shoot?
You deserve access to the space and resources to bring your creative vision to life. We know what it’s like to feel inspired by your potential but not be able to reach it. Which is why we designed a simple, elevated space to do just that!
With a working photographer as one of our owners, we intentionally designed the space to provide resources we know photographers would find valuable like a white seamless cyclorama wall, west-facing windows for natural light and so much more.
